As the walls are closing in
And the colors fade to black
And my eyes are falling, fast and deep into me
And I follow the tracks that lead me down
And I never follow what’s right
And they wonder sometimes when they see all the
Sadness and pain the truth brings to light
Cause I can’t see no reason
What is blind cannot see
‘Cause I want what is pleasing
All I take should be free
What I rob from the innocent ones
What I’d steal from the womb
If I cried me a river of all my confessions
Would I drown in my shallow regret
As the walls are closing in
And the colors fade to black
And the night is falling fast and deep into the sea
And in darkness all that I can see
The frightened and the weak
Are forced to cling to mistakes they know nothing of
At mercy are the meek
Cause I can’t see no reason
What is blind cannot see
‘Cause I want what is pleasing
All I take should be free
What I rob from the innocent ones
What I’d steal from the womb
If I cried me a river of all my confessions
Would I drown in my shallow regret
  -Black, Sarah McLachlan

Spike looked around himself; he was alone, as always, in the mansion.
The beautiful, priceless items that had once littered the halls and
various rooms had long since been destroyed, smashed in various fits of
rage. He hadn’t fed in ages, he couldn’t remember the last time he had
even left the damned house. She had come to him once, and the slayer,
now long since dead, had returned several times, she had attempted to
seduce him on each occasion, and on each occasion he had rebuffed her,
telling her to leave and not to come back. Finally she had listened.
Time had dragged on, drawing out like a blade, days, years, maybe even
decades had all melded together in his anger, his pain, and his sorrow.
Nothing seemed real anymore, nothing mattered anymore. It was as if the
confines of his mind were slowly closing in on him, crushing his
consciousness into submissive darkness. His eyes darkened, primal
instincts took over. His mind withdrew inside of him, and his demon
emerged fully, golden eyes and ridges along his forehead slipping into
place unconsciously.
Spike was gone, the beast within him had emerged, furious at being
denied for time untold. The man he was had been subdued, thrown into his
memories, while the demon ran wildly through the darkened streets of
Sunnydale.
His conscious mind was aware of precious little, one perfectly clear
image was of a raven hared woman, two rose-colored tendrils of hair
framed her face. Two piercing blue orbs set deep in her smooth, pale
face. She had sung a song, primal in it’s desires, it’s demands. The
beat was set and his demon had taken her, tearing through her body with
raging passion that only a being of pure evil could conceive. She had
been a child, no more than sixteen, yet she had accepted his brutality
blow for blow, welcoming death with open arms. The demon had wandered,
feeding at will, killing at every chance. Nothing drove it, no purpose,
and it was brought down to reckless carnage. He left a path of crumpled
bodies behind him as he neared his destination, something that called
him, the sea.
He felt dawn approaching as his demon subsided, leaving Spike to return
to consciousness as the moon sunk below the sea. The sun was coming
soon, the night chased away by yet another day. He would go to her this
time, join her finally, where they could never be parted. He turned to
see the sun rise over the eastern sky, and suddenly he had so many
regrets.
‘Never regret anything you do,’ her voice whispered softly to him. He
wept for her, her life had been cut short and she was kept in the dark,
with no light. His eyes stung with too many tears, they fell from his
eyes like showers of spears from the heavens.
‘Don’t weep for me,’ he heard her say to him as his body exploded into
so many ashes, ‘I’m already dead.’ What was left of him drifted away,
caught on the breeze, falling into the raging waters of the sea below.
He was caught in darkness, nothing above or below him. No light, no
sound, no air. There was nothing there but memories. His eyes strained
in the dark, he thought he saw something, a flash of red.
He called to her. Another flash of red, and then he saw her. Her green
eyes flashed and he reached out to her. Their fingers brushed and they
were encased in a white light before being thrown apart for eternity.
Each screamed the other’s name as they were taken to their respective
ends. She was dragged into heaven, and he thrown into hell. The earth
and heavens shook with their injustice, their screams and tears of
torment were heard throughout existence. Then, silence swallowed their
screams, and all was still.
She had waited for him, and he had come, and still, they were not
together.
